Self realization brought on by an encounter with the waffle iron is a self portrait. In an period of languor and declining moral vigor I found myself wanting to hide in a deep hole (or in this case behind space goggles). The realization that I could still act like a complete goof and be myself is what helped me crawl out of the hole. I focused on the mouth and the goggles as they were the most important parts of the image.

Well it's not exactly an actual waffle iron haha. It's an insanely long story, but basically the Waffle Iron is a nickname of a person I used to know that ruined my life. This was my artistic response to that very low point in my life, hence "brought on by an encounter with the waffle iron."
